I was lucky enough to attend an in person Halide House workshop back in 2020. Ruby taught me how to cut through the bullshit when it comes to film photography. It’s hard to describe but her teaching style is similar to her photography. Laid back. Full of story, sometimes funny or silly, real. I felt totally inspired. She really looked after us. I felt like I was catching up with a bunch of friends, even though I’d never met her or the other students. The whole experience was really inspiring and just a lot of fun. I’d recommend to anybody.

Thank you so much Ruby!! You have been an absolutely amazing teacher and support. The comparison from my over exposed photos from end of last year to the photos l've taken recently is crazy and it's all thanks to you. I'm so glad I found your course and was able to explore my creative side a bit more.

Thank you Ruby for teaching me so much valuable information that l'll keep in my memory and close to my heart forever! If you're a film photographer, or if you just really like film photography, or if you know someone who loves film, go and check out Halide House- it's a beautiful thing and worth every minute of your time.

Over the past couple of weeks, I have had the pleasure of joining a weekly zoom call with a person I have admired for quite some time, and a group of women I have grown to admire. That person is Ruby Johnson, aka Rubyjfilm, one of first photographers I truely began to follow on instagram. I can count on one hand the amount of photographers I've TRUELY followed on insta. That is, keeping up with their work, watching it grow, interacting with it, and all the while having it inspire my own practise. Funnily enough a lot of these photographers have very different styles to myself, and yes, thanks to the Halide House, I am officially branding myself a photographer. Yes, mostly for personal passion and interests, but to do the act of photography makes you a photographer right? I never really called myself a 'photographer' in the past as I never saw it as a title I needed/owned. But wtf do titles mean these days? Anyway, like I was saying. I've completed ~ 6-7 zoom calls with Ruby and the group of beautiful talented women, where we've learnt about all things film, cameras, finding your photographic eye, perfecting your practise and how photography has the power to MOVE people.

Hi! I just got my first roll back from fully shooting manual & holy shit I couldn't be more happy with the photos. It’s definitely one of my best rolls yet and I owe it to you! Thank you so much! I can't wait to share the pics

Hey Ruby!! I just saw your posts for the upcoming Master Course and it reminded me that I needed to thank you again for the course just past.

I loved it so much!!! I honestly cannot thank you enough.

Not only do I now feel so much more comfortable using a range of different cameras, film stocks and settings, but the course has also made me so much more confident in myself. I have gone from thinking of photography as a little side hobby to something that I could actually make my profession. I always doubted it but now I feel so determined to make it happen thanks to you and all the lovely people that were in the course.

It really made me feel like there were other people in the same position as me.

I hope that we can stay in touch because it's so nice to connect with people that have the interest as me!
